Protection in Relocation

Hello! Hope all is well. I may have an opportunity to relocate to a high COVID Case State this Fall for work. The move is big as it involves the whole family, new schools etc. My hesitation is what if I move there and suddenly the state shuts down and my company either furloughs or lays off. Then I am stuck. I am thinking of negotiating a clause to protect me financially if that happens. Has anyone experienced this before?

Have you discussed working remotely? I live in a high COVID case state and most companies are having everyone work from home until the end of the year.

That is a good idea, not sure if they are up to it.

I was recently submitted to a job and the recruiter mentioned the location and then I mentioned the current COVID status (he was out of state) and that everything was shut down. They called back to advise it was a remote position until the cases go down. If they are having a spike I would be shocked if they wanted you to relocated and work from an office. If they don't care about your safety is this a company you want to work for?

As an employer, I am curious about the nature of the terms and conditions you might propose to protect you and your family from the potential adverse impact of the government’s public health response on the proposed relocation. This is a deeply challenging time for employers as well as employees and their families. Many employers are on the verge of insolvency. How do we insure the proposed agreement against forced reorganization and/or bankruptcy of the employer?
