I'm in the process of accepting a job offer, and it isn't going as planned. They wanted me to start ASAP so I was supposed to start today (Thursday), but it was pushed to tomorrow and now to Monday because apparently the background and drug screen are taking longer than expected - I know it's all clear, just taking longer than usual. I received a text at 6PM yesterday to not come in today. And when I checked in this afternoon about going in tomorrow, they didn't respond for three hours, just to finally say they would check the status "this evening" and let me know. To me 6:30 PM is the evening, but okay... I can be flexible.
So I finally get another text at 8PM saying it's still pending so let's plan on Monday, but also would you work a different schedule than we originally agreed to for a few weeks? This seems very disorganized and disrespectful of my time. Mind you, I do not NEED this job. I've had other offers, and have been barraged with messages from recruiters recently, and this is a step down in for me in almost every aspect. I CHOSE this job because I thought it would give me a different type of experience that would help me for my long-term career goals. At this point, I'm close to saying no thanks and getting back to the job search. Am I overreacting, or is this the red flag it seems to be? If they're disorganized, disrespectful of my time and leaving me hanging till 8pm now, I'm wondering if that's what it will be like to work for them as well.
