Hey all! I'm at a turning point in my career navigating what is next and how do I get there. Anyone relate? I've had 3 sessions with a coach and realized after the 3rd session, that the coach I selected is not inspiring me or leading me in the direction that I hoped. What I've recognized is that this is ok. Sometimes you've got to step in and spend a little time before you realize something isn't right for you. I am not feeling the fire and now it's time to move again. Some good things have come from it. One of which is a test that was inspired by Insights. It is very thorough and it gave me good insight as to how I communicate and what drives me. I've also done the Strong test and Myers - Briggs indicator test. Below is an article shared by The Muse which showcases some of the best career tests and quizzes. I wanted to share it in the event that some of you are working through something similar. Happy Testing!

Antonia - Thank you for your post. Congratulations on identifying that you're ready to move on. Many people stay in a job for far too long and they get comfortable. The longer they stay, the harder it is to leave or change positions. You are a risk-taker and that's awesome!
When did you decide that you needed a coach? I'm asking because after 32 years in corporate America, I decided to leave and help women who feel stuck or comfortable, get unstuck or leave the comfort zone. I'm building this business and it's been slow. I'd love your feedback on what it was that made you consider a coach.
Thanks, Melissa
Hi Antonia - thanks for sharing this post!
I also can relate to the career turning point, and I applaud your willingness to discover what's next. As Melissa noted above, many will stay too long in a job for myriad reasons. You're already a step ahead now that you've acknowledged the current state and have begun contemplating what's next. Perhaps a convo with Melissa will spark something for each of you!
I wish you the best in your discovery!

Antonia, I also like Marcus Buckingham's Standout Strengths Assessment. It's available for free right now. https://www.marcusbuckingham.com/gift-of-standout/
The results have helped me to better articulate my value as a professional.
Good luck with your exploration!

Emily- I enjoy Marcus Buckingham as well. I did not realize they had the assessment for free right now!
Has anyone leveraged Enneagram as a part of their self exploration or as a part of development with their teams?

Antonia,
Thank you for sharing this! I can certainly relate...after being laid off in March, I am also working towards a career change. I have been in various industries in middle management roles for 30 years. Covid -19 has shifted things for my family and I. I'm looking to shift to a remote only job. Navigating a career change while there are so many who are also looking for work is daunting. My previous employer had our team take part in Insights. I found it to be spot on and I definitely learned things about my communication style. You are wise to shift gears sooner than later. I wish you all the best in your future!

Thank you for sharing. After relocating in January, I was laid off in March and had several new opportunities fall through due to covid. I had tried few career coaches in the past but they were not right for me. When life changed in March, I decided to try again and found a great coaching program that has really helped me figure out my direction and what I really want to work on. This has also shown me why my job search really wasn't working for me earlier this year. The website for the coaching is https://humanbeingstore.com/. I am working toward great new opportunities.

Hi Antonia,
I am a big fan of these various self-assessment tools, too. The clarity that comes with understanding one’s self, what makes you unique and tick is so vital to your career and your relationships. I really like Strengths Finder 2.0 as a great way to identify and put the right words behind your strengths. Being able to articulate them with more clarity and draw a connection between your experience and strengths can be very appealing to recruiters and hiring managers. I also think Emotional Intelligence 2.0 helps chart your strengths in the four areas of emotional intelligence, that EQ, and where to focus from a development standpoint. These are the things in people that cannot be replaced by machines/AI and are very desirable for leadership positions. These once labeled ‘soft skills’ that women are known to excel at and, some may have thought held women back in a man’s world, are finally receiving their due recognition and promotion!

Thank you for this. I am right there with you all. I just got laid off a couple of weeks ago, with my entire group. After 20 years at the company, I had been wanting to make not only a job change, but a career change. I left the company 5 years ago to do just that, but it turned out not to be the right move and I was hired back at my previous company. When you are qualified for only one field, it's very difficult to break into something else! I will dive into the resources listed here. This is a very helpful community.

I am so sorry to hear about you and your entire team being laid off. These are difficult times but the right opportunity awaits you. Think about the company you worked for and all of its vendors and service providers in the shape of a triangle. Your skill set and years of experience would likely be very valuable to an organization on the other sides of that triangle. Those that provide services and expertise to your previous company. Ask yourself, “who will want my experience to better their business, improve their name, etc?”. Best of luck!

Antonia, thanks for sparking this discussion and conversation. I love StrengthsFinder because it allows you to focus your attention on what you are a good at. Instead of trying to "fix you." I personally don't believe folks needing fixing. We just need to find roles that align to our strengths, passion and values.
Another assessment I recommend is PVA (Personal Values Assessment) https://www.valuescentre.com/tools-assessments/pva/ by the Barret Values Centre. It focuses on the WHY you do, what you do! It was very insightful to me.
I congratulate folks for stepping outside their comfort zone to take a leap into the unknown!
