My current org is in the events and tradeshow business. We've been hit hard by COVID and since last March, we've laid off over 80% of the organization. We've sold a business segment to a competitor and even then, we barely have cash flow and our revenue streams are trickling down to nothing. We've put people on furlough for the remainder of the month and well into Feb.
I brought it up to our COO and I basically submitted my resignation. She asked me for a task list and I told her straight up that me, as an HRBP, I don't enough work to justify my salary and she could technically let me go and either distribute my work amongst the remaining finance or hire an HR coordinator/generalist to administer payroll and benefits, and the little bit of employee relations problems.
I still feel awful. I want to be loyal, but if this company goes under, I have nothing. Plus, I've been a bit of a job hopper these last 3 years and have had 4 jobs during that period (including a contract role). I was really hoping to be in this role for 3-4 years, to grow and develop in an organization. I'm fearful to join the crowd of folks job hunting right now, but I'd rather search while employed versus unemployed.
