Personal branding

Joined a fabulous webinar on personal branding yesterday. For those of us that struggle with communicating in interviews the value we can add to the company, take the time to research and create your elevator speech. Does anyone have one they can share? Does anyone else struggle with this?

One quick tip is to think less about selling yourself and more about connecting with others. While it's important to make a good first impression, you really want to be true to who you are. And be receptive to what your client/employer may be looking for or need help with - sometimes, you may notice something they missed. This helps you tune in to the needs of others and be less self-conscious during conversations and interviews. :)

Hi there! Elevator pitches can be daunting but they're actually pretty simple. You want to include what you're currently doing, then highlight some of your skills based off of what the employer is seeking (reference the job description), followed by some sort of reference to a next step to get the conversation rolling. Here's an example, let's pretend I'm interviewing for a coaching position: My name is Aly Brine, I'm a Career Alignment Coach, Consultant and Speaker who works with high-earning, high-achieving Millennial women who want to stay in the corporate world but finally discover a career they're actually passionate about (crazy concept, right?!) I've learned my coaching skills through a number of previous positions including at a Fortune 31 company where I was an HR Generalist who had to provide feedback and coaching to everyone from the operators turning valves in the field all the way up to the Division Manager who was frequently hanging out in my office playing with the spinner toys on my desk. I've also been able to foster a love for helping individuals dream bigger and work through limiting beliefs in order to live lives they could only dream of through my experience as a recruiter as well as in Career Services at The Ohio State University. I saw that your company plans to serve 10,000 new clients this year, could you tell me more about that process? A little humor is always good and be sure to practice before you go into the interview. I always recommend practicing in a mirror so you can see your mannerisms and how you come off. It can be uncomfortable but super helpful. Remember, interviews are just conversations so there's nothing to get too worried about. Let me know if you have other question!
