I was a material specialist for a large well known helicopter company in my area. I am forklift certified and I worked at the busiest base they had. I'm not afraid to say that I was doggone good at what I did.
Unfortunately, due to the economy, the company went through some hard times and did a lot of downsizing. I managed to avoid 3 layoffs. In the middle of October, I was released due to work force reduction, and they replaced me with a young man who made less than I did.
Here is my biggest problem. I was 66 in October, but that didn't stop me from working at my full capacity. I really did LOVE my job. The layoff was totally unexpected since they always needed materials people, and I had no intention of retiring for a least 4 more years, if then.
Since the lay off, I've been doing everything I can to find another job. At my age, it's almost a joke, even though I'm super qualified. I'm finding that retirement is NOT for me. Anybody have any ideas?
