Job seekers often complain that they’ve been ghosted by recruiters or hiring managers at some point. In other words, a potential employer reaches out or interviews a candidate and then disappears without a phone call or email. Bob McIntosh, a career strategist, offered some tips in the latest #GetHired for people who have been ghosted. He suggests:
Follow up three times
Be cordial in all your communications
Keep looking for work until you have an offer
Move on after three follow-up attempts
Don’t take it personally!
As awful as this can make a candidate feel, it’s actually helpful & tells you a lot about the company’s employer brand and culture. Ghosting seems to me like a red flag that they don’t care about the candidate experience and if they don’t care about that, how confident are you they care about the employee experience? I say take this as a gift and keep moving!
