I am early 50s and starting a new career path.
I spent 30 years at the same organization and the last 8 years have been pure hell due to my manager. I am leaving a 30 year career with no real solid references because of him and our contentious relationship, people who knew me before this situation have left the organization and I didn't do a good job of staying in touch. I am also extremely isolated in my current job as he has tried very hard to control any interactions I've had (can we say major misogynistic narcissist?) and I have suffered bullying and discrimination that I have reported, but he has continued to get away with it. I made the desicion a couple years ago to hold out til I could get my kids out of college (single mom) before I decided to leave due to dependent tuition benefits. I also secretly started back to school a year ago to get another masters degree in a completely different field. It's an online program and although I've formed some relationships with administration and instructors in the program, not solid relationships that may serve as references for me. I am at a complete loss about how to handle the reference part of applying for jobs at this point in my life. Anyone have any suggestions?
