This anti-racist job interview question is attracting companies hoping to make a change
It’s easy to be reluctant when talking about racial inequity in the workplace because it might require the interviewee to share how he/she/they benefits from the disadvantages of others. And that can be an uncomfortable conversation... Not to mention, interviews are uncomfortable to begin with!
But we all know that companies have to do more than make a simple statement about what they’re doing about rooting out racism to make a proactive approach. And I heard about an interview question some companies are using in order to make a change.
The question: “Without using the word ‘different,’ what’s your definition of diversity?
What are your thoughts about being asked this simple question? Do you think it would lead to eye-opening findings on what you hear about the interviewer? Do you think it’s something you’d be comfortable with answering/asking?
