Celebrating a huge win...

This morning I was promoted to manage a new team and they offered a 20% raise! Not only was I hoping for this new role, I wasn’t expecting anything more than a 10% raise (although I did ask for a 25% raise) -- given the circumstances. So I’m pretty shocked right now! I’m terrified and excited and nervous all at the same time. Any and all manager advice would be much appreciated! Also, full transparency, I debated on sharing this news. I know that even having a job right now is considered to be lucky but I do hope sharing good news where we can will encourage others to fight for the roles and pay the want.

Congratulations and wishes for much success and happiness in this new role. To quote Mark Twain: “If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.” In other words, work smart: https://www.fastcompany.com/1592454/work-smart-do-your-worst-task-first-or-eat-live-frog-every-morning

Congratulations and I wish you the very best in your new position. My only advice is to be yourself and treat others like you would want to be treated - be fair and be considerate.

You can read lots of great management books. I love John Maxwell's "Jumpstart Your Leadership". It's a tiny book with lots of great nuggets. I also love Patrick Lencioni's book "The Ideal Team Player". His website "The Table Group" has tons of great resources. Check it out!
