3 things to tell yourself when you feel anxious at work
There's never a right time to feel anxious, especially if that time is while we're at work. Anxiety doesn't care about work deadlines and expectations. It can creep up on us when we least expect it. It affects our internal emotions, but it can also affect our external interactions and work performance.
So while we can't always prevent anxiety from coming on, we can control how we manage it. Here's some things I say to myself when I'm feeling anxious at work.
1. There's nothing wrong with you. Sometimes I can make my anxiety worse by feeling guilty for the way I'm reacting. Reassuring myself that this isn't my fault helps ground me a little.
2. What's my biggest priority? Taking a second to reflect helps me feel much less overwhelmed and worried. I take a step back and organize myself. If I can figure out what's more important, I can set myself up for success in a healthy way.
3. You can do this. When you get anxious, it's easy to feel like you're helpless and stuck. Believing in myself helps me tackle what I need to get done and ensures I'm still doing my best work.
Does anyone else get anxious at work--or is anyone anxious about going back to work? What do you tell yourself when you're trying to cope?
