Internal Job Interview

UPDATE: I did the interview today, and I hope it went well. Thank you all for your advice, I appreciate it. Hi everyone! I have an internal job interview at the business I am currently employed, what are some of the most important questions that I can ask during? I really want to advance in my career and education, and would like a new position and a pay raise. Thanks in advance!

What is your current work reputation? If you are known for high quality and high quantity, good relationship skills, and sound professional judgment, that reputation will augment a strong interview.

We did an internal hire. She was especially impressive because she really did her research and went above and beyond the other candidates in thinking through what she could bring to the position. The other candidates were strong, but the internal hire matched their strengths AND was able to use her insider knowledge of the organization to make clear how she would be able to improve our program, and far more efficiently than the others, who would need extensive training. Good luck!

Asking question about the challenges of the new position is also a good approach. Do you share the same values of the new boss? Ensure that is a win-win situation.

There is a strong possibility of not getting a salary increase at this time. Be prepared for that. With the pandemic, many businesses are freezing salaries.

Like with an external interview research more about what the team and organization does and come up with at least two questions that are relevant. One rule of thumb that I follow when it comes to asking questions is put yourself in the shoes of the role that you’re desiring for and ask questions like you’re already in the role for example ask budget profit and loss , operating model kind of questions that you’re expected to be aware of in that role. Agree with the previous comments do not bring up raise or anything along those lines until it gets further along. Good luck ??

I agree with Akeba Rice: what can you bring to the role that will benefit your company? Focus on that first and sell yourself on the attributes and relevant accomplishments that you will bring to this job. In addition, note that your ambition, capacity for hard work and excellent track record at your company to date (if applicable), make you a strong fit. Do not discuss your desire for more pay until the question of salary arises.

They will ask you how will you elevate or improve the role for hire. How would your current skills set be applicable to the new role? Read the job description and think of different types of issues you might be asked to solve. Hope this helps!
