If my boss knows I'm looking elsewhere, she will let me go....
My husband and I are looking to relocate to be near our aging parents which requires that I obtain a position many states away from my current location. My boss is a rather inconsiderate woman who fires all employees under her supervision who submit a notice regardless of the circumstances under which the notice is submitted. I've been employed at this organization (under different leadership) for several years prior to her coming on board and I don't want to leave on bad terms. Also, I need to keep working and maintain benefits until we move. After working diligently for this employer, I'm deeply saddened to be so anxious to even apply somewhere for fear that my manager will be called for a simple employment verification.
Does anyone have advice on how to handle this situation? To be clear, my boss is the head of human resources, so there is little room for going over her head and employment in this state is at will.
My dream job is located where we are planning to move, but the position is one that requires that my current and previous managers provide a pretty outstanding review of my performance (which I have earned). I don't know how to approach this situation and it is making a nervous wreck.
Any advice would be appreciated!
