Please share your success networking stories - if you found a job through networking how did you do it?

I have gotten three jobs through networking/social relationships. My FIL offices in a building with a company needing someone with my skills. I got the job. I got a job when I was not even looking for one when a former colleague needed someone to fill in while she was out on maternity leave. That turned into a two year stint. I got a job where a relative also works because he knew there was a new department starting with someone with my job skills. It really helps to have a contact inside of an organization to put a word in for you so your CV gets attention. They may know about jobs that have not even been advertised externally. A lot of times it isn’t what you know but who you know. It puts you miles ahead to have both. I paid it forward by helping a relative get an internship interview inside a company with contacts I have. She got the internship and it led to a full time job right out of college.
