a career. I have a number of staff who "punch a clock". They do OK work while they are here but they certainly have no desire to be promoted or participate in career development. One of my performance metrics is staff development but my staff are entry level/assembly line type workers who do not think of their jobs as careers or aspire to do anything else. I have met with them and asked what they would like training on, what topics might interest them etc. and they all shrugged. I have arranged for safety focused lunches, they come for the food but could care less about the content. I even offered a free CPR class during work hours, none of them signed up.
