Are you saying "why are parents against college grads asking for pay for jobs?" ie: are you saying that parents want college grads to work for free? I'm not sure how to answer why certain parents want this, as most parents want their kids to be paid.
Unpaid internships should be illegal. It's literally just unpaid labor-- companies benefitting from the desperation of young people. Super unethical, unless you're helping to found a startup that hasn't gotten funding yet. I always side eye companies that post unpaid internships when they have staff that makes over 100K/yr. They have money, they just choose to extort.
Parents wanting or not wanting their kids to work for free isn't the issue. It's corporate greed normalizing creating inequalities between people who can afford not to work and those who need money for their time.
