So, I work in tech, and our company recently hired a new marketing director. She is on an aggressive push to promote new features. But she doesn't have any idea how the product works. So she is promoting features we don't have or don't work the way she claims. This is resulting …
I am so happy to get a offer last week but I find I was pregant. I notice my new company but they do not hire me even though my experience was qualified this job.
Now I am sad because I do not have a job…
I interviewed for a position today (it's a state job-Department of Revenue) and they emailed me asking me to complete a background check form and also asked for a 3rd reference. I really don't have another good reference. I could get great references at my current job but I am not…
Hi everyone. I need some outside-the -box thinking. I have a demanding leadership role that means working 45-50 hours a week. I have a commute and two kids. I am divorced and have 50/50 custody. On my weeks with the kids, I feel like I am burning the candle at both ends. I try to get a…
I'm just trying to see if getting out of this in person meeting is even a possibility. I remember last year when my Director, Supervisor, & I worked for 3 days in a row at an outdoor event in the scorching heat & my director said we could use liberal leave the next day. Then, I requested to use it…
This isn't for me as my job is currently stable. But can anyone give me advice on job hunting in your 60s? My husband, who is 62, may be losing his job (lay off, not firing). He is diabetic and really needs health insurance. And we're just so terrified about the job market and his age. He's been an…

I think here you need to take it as 'it's the thought that counts' rather than see it as a reflection of how much they value you as an individual. It would be nice to have a personalized message, but that process can cost a huge amount of money, often more than the reward being given. Do you really want the company to spend a ton of money to send out a card/insert, personalized postcard that will probably end up in the landfill?
I work for a really large corporation (over 15,000 employees) and they ended our holiday bonuses this year. Not going to lie it hurt, and I went through that whole 'wow, guess I'm pretty worthless to them' feeling too. It's a valid feeling. Then I had to look at it from the standpoint of the company. The very generous bonuses, and they were very generous, multiplied across over 15,000 people is a Huge expense to the company. I know that our executive leadership agonized over this decision, and it was not done with malice or because they don't care about our coworkers.
Before others come at me... Yes, there are evil corporations and maybe you work for them. I don't. My company tries to do what's right for it's coworkers. Are there things they could do better? Yes, there always are opportunities for improvements.
We had layoffs earlier this year and we lost some very special people that I had worked with for a long time. I'd rather forgo my bonus, and maybe just get a coffee card or nothing at all, than see more people loose their jobs.

They feel the extra effort was your job. Not quite sure why but they seem ungrateful.
