I've just found out why my coworker disappeared! Thanks to all of your advice, I reached out to my coworker and expressed that she would be missed. After a week of silence, she responded, thanked me for reaching out, and revealed that she wasn't laid off but rather left on her own accord — because she felt the work environment was too toxic. Thanks to her message, my eyes have been opened to the toxic practices at the company, and I'm starting to navigate them now.
This morning, I had my normal weekly meeting with my boss and three coworkers. Everything seemed normal and when it was over, I went about my day as usual. A couple hours later, my boss asked me to join another meeting immediately. This is completely unlike her. Once I joined, she notified me that one of my coworkers — who was on this morning's call — would no longer be working at our company.
I didn't get much other information, except for the fact that I'll have some new responsibilities and even some new staff. While I'm already overwhelmed by that information, I'm more distressed over my coworker's sudden absence. Can I ask my boss or anyone else what happened to them?
