I had a review the day before and my supervisor told me they were very happy with my work and they planned to start sending me to various training sessions to expand my role. The next day, I was called into HR with 2 supervisors present, told it was my last day, offered 2 week’s severance plus vacation pay in exchange for signing away any rights to sue, including for age discrimination. I was simply told they had hoped things would be different and everyone liked me, they would rehire me, and provide a reference. When I questioned my supervisor as to why he did a review the day before and told me how happy they were, he said it came from corporate and he had no idea. He said he had fought to keep me. Later, I discovered that everyone in my department fought for me.
My question here is, “How do I explain the brevity of that role, without going through the entire story?” Removing the role from my resume is not an option.
