Job Position Follow-up

I applied for a job late June and had a phone interview a couple weeks later. Fortunately, I had a connection to the company through an old boss who put in a recommendation for me. The call was informal and happened mid-July and haven't heard a thing. I even sent a thank you email as well as a follow-up letting the hiring manager know I'm interested in the role. At this point, it's been over a month and uncertain about the status of the position. I don't want to seem too persistent, but also feel it's a bit unprofessional not to have said anything at this point. Do I need to wait it out, forget about it, or follow-up once more?

Follow up! I'm currently looking for a new position and have been feeling delays happening in the follow-up process. Persistent would be if you were contacting them every few days. Waiting a month and following up is showing interest. I recently did the same with a position I REALLY wanted. The hiring manager never got back to me when she said she would. I waited a week from that point and email her. Nothing. So I waited a month and sent another. Nothing again. In my case the position had been posted on the company site, so I went there and the position was taken down. So I pieced together that the position was filled although I didn't appreciate being ghosted. If the position is not formally posted, then they might be avoiding having anything in writing in fear of possibly being accused of not being an equal opportunity employer.

I have a feeling given our current environment and the business doing well (which is great) is causing extreme delays. I sent one more note and hope to hear back even if it's a rejection. Appreciate the note.

Go ahead and follow up. You're not going to come across as "too persistent." While I agree that you should have heard something by now, try to have a little patience with the process. Unless the company is, and always has been, 100% online they're dealing with this bizarre new reality just like the rest of us - and the pandemic has brought a whole new set of HR challenges many of us never imagined.

I agree, go ahead and follow-up. This is a strange new world for all us and as companies readjust and reshuffle, there could be hiring delays. So good to keep your name in front of HR.

Thank you both! Makes sense. I sent one more note, otherwise, somewhat feel that it's not meant to be. Much appreciated.
