I'm having a little trouble trying to explain a hybrid position I had at a past job on my resume. I worked in the sales department as an account manager with our top clients. I did help sell custom display merchandising programs to large CPG's, brands and retailers, (PepsiCo, ConAgra Foods, Amazon, Walgreens, etc). I was not the official outside sales person, I was the sales support person (account manager). However, I made this post anonymous because of what I'm about to say. I was in a bad situation with this sales person I worked closely with on all sales and projects. He was blowing off clients and work, sometimes months at a time. He would be drunk on many client calls, so I would do all the talking. Basically I was doing his job and mine for a few years, while he made all the money. My company at the time barely had an HR department for me to bring this situation to, and I did bring the issues to our CEO and VP of Sales, but they turned their head to it b/c we were breaking sales records. I finally had to leave that company I was at for 16 years b/c of the toxic environment I was in. I did leave there, and I did get another job in tech for the last 2 years. But then I was laid off due to COVID along with 90 other people. I would like my next job to be another hybrid account management/sales role. I am not looking for 100% outside sales/commission at this time. But I do want to somehow state on my resume that I did sell in that job, but I do not want to lie, since I was not the official sales person. Some of the companies I will be sending my resume to were our customer's at that job, and they do know people at my past company and could find out that I was not the official sales person. However, I want my resume to pass through the ATS system with some sales-focused key words so it can get to a live person. Does anyone have ideas or phrases I could use to explain how I sold those programs, or how I was in a hybrid role? Should I just say that I "contributed to" selling". Sorry for the very long explanation. Thank you in advance for your help and time.
