Industry-standard dragon-boss. Still unsure i'm alright.
I work in a small company in which there is no HR, and we are working under minimal payment conditions and no benefits. Hell, they don't even pay taxes the way they should. But it's whats 'normal' in my country and the guild that I work in (Interior Design / Architecture).
We are constantly in a hurry to perform our best, deliver results and we are often left on our own with projects. When we say that we can either 'work fast or work well', my boss exploded and told me to never ever repeat that.
She usually doesn't share enough information which ends up in something not coming out right and it being the employee's fault.
The rest of the team does feel burned out. But when we tried to confront her in a meeting, things got so ugly one of the other employees actually started sobbing and she broke out laughing.
So obviously we are all afraid and honestly don't support each other.
We don't usually ask for feedback at the risk of her looking for bad things to say... So we are constantly trying to overachieve and are constantly at the edge of burn out.
I'm afraid the rumors about her around the city were true that she's just a nasty person. She is nice sometimes as any other human being...
The other boss is alright and nice, but the first one kind of pushes her around. I don't feel like I can quit or she will not really say anything nice to future employers. I quit my previous job because of the same reasons.
So, how can I handle her? How do I handle myself? If it's the industry standard, should I try to move industry? I really love what I do but this is not the way to live.
