Job searching frustrations!

I interviewed for a customer success manager position. I am mostly sales background. I received positive feedback the entire process, but after 5 interviews .. last one with the director as final round.. (2 of which required me to take half days because they were long video calls), I just found out I didn't get the job. I am frustrated because finding a job seems like it is a full time job. I just can't keep putting so much time into it and be successful at my current sales job. So frustrated!!

Congratulations! It seems you must be an excellent candidate and qualified for the position, otherwise, the company would not invest that much time interviewing with you multiple times. I would encourage you to think about what you are truly looking for and why you feel you need to leave your current position. Take a day or two, right it down and create a great cover letter telling hiring managers why they should hire you. Sometimes I think we make moves before we take time to self reflect. Think about what motivates you. Do you need to continue your job search right now or can you take a break, wait for a few months when you will be able to dedicate more time to your job search? Another thing to try is designate a time every week to do your job search. If you have 2 hours every Sunday, or 1 hour four times per week, perhaps this would take some of the pressure off. Lastly, prior to the interview process, I would make sure the hiring team understands your current situation and is flexible. Negotiate your time and ask them to schedule interviews that will work with YOUR schedule. Hope this helps! Good Luck! Don't give up! Stay Positive!

Do your best to stay positive! Everyone experiences rejection, and it is in no way a reflection of your talent or self worth. Glean what you can learn from the experience and turn your attention to the next opportunity. Most companies do not give feedback, try not to dwell on that too much. When a door closes a window opens and you will find where you are meant to be.

Finding a job is super frustrating and you will go through varying degrees of emotions with both good and bad days. It's imperative to keep moving forward. When you are burned out or frustrated, it's time to regroup and take some time away from the search. Your frustration and desperation come across in everything you communicate to a potential new employer. Have you considered doing some volunteer work or part time work to split the time and give you an opportunity to think about something else? Not all positions and companies are a fit - keep that in mind. Perhaps these rejections have been a blessing in disguise.

Just sending good vibes to you and lots of hope! I think companies are under pressure to ensure the 'right fit' and thus have many more employees as part of the process. Hang in there!

Companies need to consolidate some of these interviews instead of wasting peoples time. I have gone on several interviews for internal positions and feel like I am being interviewed by the entire department. Just be direct and let the hiring manager know that you have expectations in your current role and limited days off. If they do not respect this, likely not the best employer.

I've had this experience at a few key points in my career. The job was perfect.....so close I could taste it. I can honestly say that something better always materialized soon after. Why? I think it's because clarity often emerges in the midst of a big disappointment, which will in turn make your story all the more compelling when that next (better) opportunity comes along. Hang in there!

Ughhh...this is incredibly frustrating. Did they give you any feedback? Out of curiosity, are you applying for jobs you really want or just looking for anything at this point?

Very frustrating! I asked for a call to see if I can get more feedback beyond the -timing and competition- answer I was given. This was a job that I really wanted. It was with a company I had been after for a LONG time. Once things went all remote permanently, I jumped on the opportunity and put everything I had into it. Through all the interviews I got very positive feedback so I feel a bit misled. I know there was a lot of competition but I just want to know more. Even after being rejected, I still just want to go after that company & position. I have been searching for a while now and this really had everything I was looking for. Ugh!

Unfortunately, often when a company makes their decision they completely disregard the other candidates who put so much time, energy, and effort into them. If you got that far, you deserved a better explanation- I’m sorry you didn’t get it. There’s a reason you didn’t get it and something better out there for you...I promise!

Hang in there. I'm sure that was very disappointing and felt like a waste of time. Try to find the silver lining in the situation. Each interview is more practice for you to polish your interviewing skills and to better prepare you for landing the job in a company that's just right for you.

Not much constructive to add here except keep with it if you really want to move on. If you could be content in your current role, given the environment that covid has created for job searching, you may be better off remaining in the current role (ONLY if you can be happy there, not advocating for you to stay in a toxic situation).

Anonymous I feel your pain, yes looking for a job is a full time job and it is very frustrating. I've been many sites from remote, working at home, to LinkedIn and many more. I've had interviews, and most of them end with not hearing anything back. Its as if HR no loner believes they need to communicate with the candidate after the interview. Respect is gone, not sure why but companies don't have respect for people any more. There are so many people that have been affected by COVID19 in many ways from job losses, to losing a loved one, to starting over. To HR managers all we ask is to be respectful of us and give us a chance to go back to work. We are all very trainable and can learn any job function when given the chance.
