Virtual assistants

I’m thinking about enrolling in the 90 day VA program and wondering what people thoughts were about it. Also if any women are virtual assistants, how is that working out, is it successful?

Wow that's a brilliant business idea - rocket girl solutions - perfect for the current situation! a VA is an admin assistant, except at home. You need solid computer skills which can be obtained free - but you'll need to buy the software (MS office suite). Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint you need to learn. The $500 VA thing is for PR & marketing assistants - if that's the industry you want to get into that sounds like a quick intro to everything. Certainly you could get all that content for free but how nice of her to curate and present it for $500! But you still need all the ground computer skills for that to be useful.

I decided to become a VA in February after getting laid off again. The decision wasn't Covid related, but I have to say, I'm pleased I made the leap when I did! I want to be in control of my day, and chose the people I serve. I was accepted by Belay as a contractor and have been more than impressed with the way they communicate and their commitment to living by their mission statement. I'm also taking on engagements independent of Belay. It's a growth area for sure. Just get clear on who you want to serve and review your skillset so you can play to your strengths. Good Luck!

Thanks for your comment!!Did you take any sort of training or education or did you already have the skills? I’ve been a restaurant manager for years. The program I’m thinking about taking is called 90 day VA, It cost $500 and I’m wondering if it’s a good way to get started and learn more online skills

What will you be getting for the $500? There's a lot of good FREE content out there that can help you set up your systems. I had a plethora of skills from working full time over the years that translated well into VA work. I think the biggest thing is to have a desire to serve and enable the exec you're serving to thrive. I get a real kick out of that! Yes, and with us all currently on lock-down, more people will be looking to work remotely. I see this career growing.

I think it's a good career and offers flexibility, if that is important to you. Do you have a great attention to detail, can you juggle 10+ to-do items at once, can you think 3 steps ahead, can you learn different software quickly, are you VERY organized ? That's what a great assistant is. I know many business owners & entrepreneurs. Having a great assistant is very important to them, and they will pay well for the right person. You have to be careful though, and act professionally at all times and negotiate well for the salary + benefits that you are worth, so that you are not taken advantage of. And, some will expect you to be available 24/7, so you have to get a written job detail and work hours, so that no misunderstandings occur. Good luck. :)
