During the pandemic, I moved back my hometown after working in NYC for 15 years. Fortunately, I was able to secure a position in March at a lower level but it afforded having money coming in while waiting until it was safe to return to New York.
As of July, I've started to apply for senior manager and directorial roles but I haven't been able to land a final interview despite having 20 years of experience.
I've contacted recruiters, connected with employees and held virtual coffee meetings without success. While currently in a lower-level position, I'm making a decent salary. In order to obtain a position in NYC, will I need to relocate first in order be considered seriously?
I'm leery of giving up a steady paycheck, especially during the pandemic. That being said, my goal is to return to NYC and at a higher role. I recently turned 45 and I'm worried about ageism especially applying from out of town. I'd appreciate your advice!
