Huge differences in recruiter responses
I had one company send me a rejection letter after I applied and they called it a "regret letter", as in "we regret we have no job for you". I thought it was rather sweet even if it was just an auto email. Somebody took 5 seconds to change one word because they knew it would give a job hunter the tiniest mood boost.
On the other hand, I just found out now that a job I interviewed 3 times for was just...deleted? I checked the Workday account I made with them and it's in my "Inactive" file with a dead link. I applied in October and I was told (after I sent a follow up) that I would get a response in mid-December. Don't HR systems have a standard "Sorry" auto-email they can send if they delete the position? (I've used ADP Workforce Now in an HR capacity, but not Workday.)

No they don't, especially if they are using a large system likfe ADP or Workday. Those systems are hard coded by an HRIS systems person and often the Talent/Recruiter has no control over the content so they just pick the response that is most close to the reason for rejection. Companies also have to post when they are doing VISA work so sometimes jobs go up and down in 30-60 days for legal posting reasons. End of year many jobs get taken off for EOY budget reasons, AKA fill it or lose it and then HM has to rejustify it in the new year and new budget cycle if it was unfilled for more than X amount of days. Don't personalize the response or the reason because other than they filled it, it was taken off, closed, filled internally or simply you don't fit what they want or its a VISA thing, at least you got a reply...the jobs that fall off just do that.

A dead link does not mean deleted. It can mean that requisition is no longer open and is closed. You shouldn't be able to click on a position's link to view when it's no longer valid. In Workday, unless the company sets up auto email regret communication then no, you would go to your application account to view the status for any updates.
