Detox

I need to have a deep detox and I was wondering what kind of foods to eat? I drink about 1.5litres of water a day and lots of tea and coffee. I have started to exercise again mainly for fitness.

Reducing it gradually if it has negative impacts on you may work :). Personally, if it's an allergy, intolerance or upsets my stomach then I would get rid of it, while ensuring iron / b vitamins needs elsewhere. That being said if it doesn't have a negative impact on you and it's more of a thing of trying to clean your diet then perhaps go a little gradual... If there's something in it that your body is craving then maybe reduce it to every two weeks or something like that but keep it if you can within reason. My pleasure!

My pleasure, here is what I have done personally: Add Kombucha to diet Slow increase of healthy foods Unless allergic, no intense eliminations of full food groups Add juices but still eat enough - not to replace a full day of eating, to enhance Walk more / swim No "cleanse", just add more "health" foods, nothing extreme Speak to doctor first of course, but my take is a long term lifestyle change of added health foods makes more sense than cleansing for a few days at a time... I would still eat a regular diet on top of the juices / water rather than do juice / wellness shots or water only. This is my personal take on it and what works for me only.

Been trying for years to eliminate red meat ? but sometimes the cravings overpower me LOL. Longterm lifestyle change is way to go. Thank you so much.

I also suggest contacting your physician to help your with your goals. To share my personal experience: I had planned a detox, but put it off. I went to the doctor for something else and ended up finding out that I had multiple mild food allergies to many of the foods that are on the "detox" food list. Had I detoxed without going to the doctor first, I would have made myself very ill. Please talk with your doctor before you begin.

Thank you Brooke. I will book a visit. I suppose it's better to get that medical advice from the Doctor. ❤️

As a general rule, the best plan is to maximize fresh fruits and vegetables; minimize processed foods; minimize heavy cheeses and sauces; bake instead of fry; minimize pasta and potatoes; prioritize whole wheat bread over enriched breads; etc. You're already drinking water, which is good. Generally, tea and coffee are fine; however, the amount of sugar added to it is not so fine. I'm not even going to suggest using less sugar because I don't use less sugar. I like to enjoy my food/drinks. However, drinking less tea and coffee, while drinking more water, is another matter. Likewise, you could try other natural sweeteners, like raw honey, molasses, maple syrup, or agave nectar. I don't use any of the above in gallons of cold sweet tea; however, I do like raw honey in mugs of hot herbal tea. Minimize stress eating or munching; however, if you're hungry, eat. Nothing spoils any kind of diet like being hungry/miserable.

You're welcome and, yes, definitely minimize processed foods. Naturally, I don't mean that you should grow/raise everything yourself, make your own pasta, bake your own bread, etc.--though some degree of these can be satisfying. Rather, I mean that you should get in the habit of looking at the ingredients in everything. Avoid preservatives, when possible; high fructose corn syrup; random fillers/additives; hydrogenated anything; and try to minimize "artificial and natural flavors." I haven't managed that last one b/c they're everywhere. Thankfully, food manufacturers are getting better about their ingredients, even in the chip and cookie department, for some brands. This also means not falling into the trap that "non-fat," "low-carb," "sugar-free," etc. are better. Usually, these tags mean that it went through extra processing and fillers/additives were added. If there's one near you, I recommend getting your groceries from Aldi. The head company is in the process of phasing out fillers, additives, unnecessary preservatives, etc. from as many of their products as possible, and most of their products cost less than Walmart's.
