Advice for Hunching?

I'm am SO guilty of hunching (especially at work) and know it's not great for the long term health on my back. Anyone else find themselves hunching? I'm lucky enough to have the option of a standing desk at work (which I should take advantage of more) but does anyone have any other advice for countering this?

Does your company have anyone who will come and help set your workspace up so that it is ergonomically correct for you? I found that this helps. I also have found that raising my monitor, which I am working on a dest top, helps considerably. Remember to take quick stretching breaks regularly. There is a great 7 min desk yoga series which is incredibly helpful. I can post a link to a video if you'd like.

Since you have a sit/stand desk scheduling time to stand can be a great way to mix it up. I have done things like stand during t-cons (or during at least one of them in the morning and afternoon.) Figure out what tasks work best for you for standing and try adding reminders to your calendar associated with that task. Another thing that you can try is having posture checks (& maybe a quick stretch) pop up as calendar reminders. It can be good for your posture and you can give your eyes a break focusing on something away from your monitor.

I sit at the edge of my chair instead of leaning into the back. It's much easier to keep your shoulders up and back straight.

I have an exercise ball instead of a chair in my home office. It definitely prevents me from slouching. They make some nice covers for them too, I’ve even seen some leather wrapped ones that look really fancy!

If you're serious about it, there's a device you can get for ~$75-100 on Amazon that's supposed to correct your posture habits (and build confidence?!?) in 2 weeks. It's called the Upright GO — check it out. :)

I know several people who have. One has actually avoided surgery to correct his curvature. But, he also works with a Trainer, who has a physical therapy background. A single action will not correct this.

All the time! I'll move my monitor(s) closer to me sometimes, or make text bigger, part of the reason I hunch over is to see better. I'd love more ideas that don't involve strapping my shoulders to the seat.
