I see more and more posts on here about people leaving careers they love, careers they have educated themselves for and want to be the best at - only to have poor leadership drive them out, poor managers, toxic or hostile work environments seems to be increasing, toxic bosses. What has happened to leaders who care, leaders who respect their employees, leaders who lead by example, encourage employees and appreciate good, dedicated employees. Giving a simple "good morning", friendly smile or "have a good day" seems to be too much to ask of your work environment on an increasing level.
What is happening to our world..............
I am working in a toxic environment, 31 years at this employer the last 15 have been toxic to the point of a few of my co-workers going for counseling to try to handle the toxic environment. I unfortunately am the wage earner in my household and can't just quit. I am thrilled to be given assignments, thrilled to be offered new skills and given tasks that challenge me to do more and better, my work is always caught up, on time, open to more projects. I am older so I have that "you go to work and do 100% every day" mindset. If anyone has any suggestions - on self improvement - please share - I'm open to trying anything at this point. Only 5 years from retirement - but still a work in progress! Sometimes outsiders perspective helps you grow as a person/employee -
I had a superior recently tell me to relax, lower the bar, it is what it is and until management improves itself - just do my job the best I can and lower expectations to make me more at peace. Although that will present a struggle with an achiever and perfectionist - deep breaths - push the reset button. Thanks for allowing me to reach out -
