Loose a Good Employee

The surest way to loose a good employee is to coddle a bad one. When the good employee is asked to take on more and more because a bad employee is not doing their job, eventually they'll end up someone else's good employee.

This is a great and transparent topic that more companies are beginning to recognize as a potentially big problem. As someone who coaches professionals as well as consults for companies , often the employers who lose good people are the ones who either do not invest in professional development OR fail to properly place their high performers on a leadership track. My suggestion if you are looking for a new position is to identify your top 3 companies who invest in employees professional development. We are all growing and you can’t afford to stay with an organization that stunts your overall professional happiness. Onward and upward!

So true...and if you're working in a place/environment like that then it's probably in your best interest to leave. Also, I would add that sometimes (from my experience) that being a good, dependable employee isn't enough. You need to advocate for yourself to the right people AND you need to have the right people in your corner... especially if you're working in a corporate setting.

The last job I had, everyone was capped at minimum wage. This became a huge source of frustration because there were clearly bad employees and employees that were bearing way more of a load than others.

I'm one of those "good dependable" ones and my leadership is giving me more hands on work instead of leadership opportunities. I'm being tasked with more work since we've lost a few folks. Sadly my boss has told me I can get more done than my peers. And yes, I'm planning on leaving if they don't provide me a clear growth path.

So true! I'm also seeing that not giving a good employee an opportunity for growth is a fast way to lose them.
