Job Search is Draining

I graduated from college in 2017. I seem to not be able to find a job in marketing because they say I do not have enough experience. I have done marketing internships but I guess those do not qualify as experience. Are there any companies out there that are willing to give you that experience?

Seeking provocative employment adventures.

Have you tried Career Builders, Indeed, Glassdoor, or LinkedIn? You may find some viable leads there. Also, have you checked the Internet for job sites that deal specifically with recent college graduates and/or EXTENDED internships ( they say you cannot learn anything meaningful in 6-10 weeks. Some universities mandate a 1 year internship.) ? Try also your college's alumni career office. They may be able to help. This does appear to be a very trying job market, and perhaps many employers are taking the "scenic route" when it comes to staffing. Many of us ( including myself) are not used to it. There may have been a lot of mistakes made in the past due to unethical/improper hiring practices, and those of us in the job market or trying to re-enter it are paying the price. You may also want to explore your local library or amazon.com to see what employment researchers and authors would recommend. Stay strong, keep your mental health up, and do not become overly discouraged. Good blessings to you!

Shifting my focus to entrepreneurial endeavors.

Hi There, I've worked in marketing for 20 years now, from consumer goods to B2B services. For the past 10 years I have specialized in digital marketing. If you're looking for advice and or a mentor I'd be happy to help. It can be tough but if you are really focused on getting into marketing you will. I'd suggest picking one aspect of marketing you are really interested in: design, writing, Google Analytics, SEO, websites, social, marketing tech/automation etc... there are so many free resources online, read everything, become an expert, volunteer to orgs that interest you and offer up your marketing services. Walk the talk and market yourself. You got this!

All excellent advice! My only addition is to consider building a website. It doesn't have to be anything fancy -- just a few pages on a free WordPress site with your resume, an about page, links to your work, and if you're up to it, a blog about what you're learning. I did this for fun while in the same position as you early in my career, and my first two bosses in my marketing career told me this effort was a big reason they hired me. It proved I "knew" digital marketing, even though I didn't have a ton of experience. And you learn a lot about marketing in the areas Nina shares above firsthand, which is an added bonus. Good luck! After you find that first job, it gets a lot easier to find the next one, so keep your head up!
