Review Sites?

How important are review sites to a decision on a job? I was recently laid off, and am interviewing at multiple companies. While I try to take certain reviews into my decision, I'm not truly sure how large of an impact they should make. I've worked for some companies in the past that had decent reviews, but mainly because HR bonused people for good reviews. Should I be looking for any patterns, or are these just outliers? I've always found reviews to be extreme on either side. Anyone have any best practices on these? Thanks for all the help!

It's worth reading and taking into account but I would ignore the outliers or those that are clearly just disgrunted ex-employees. It's good to use to look for trends - if people are generally happy or unhappy.

I had to think about this. I’ve written reviews on companies and it was my honest opinion of my stay there. People think that when you talk about the not so great things about a previous company that they are unhappy this is why people don’t speak to hr they wish they could be more upfront about the unprofessional things they say and have someone back them up. It usually does not happen. So people wait until they are gone to say how they feel. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum I’ve spoken to hr and I’ve written positive and negative reviews for a job that deserved positive or negative reviews. I’d look into the reviews if there is a common theme you see then I might be alerted. If you don’t see any reviews the employer typically will delete anything damaging to the company I’ve seen it. Just use your instincts and go with your gut. ❤️

I would take them with a grain of salt. At every company your job satisfaction is greatly influenced by your position, boss, and co-workers. There may be a few horrible reviews from people in 1 department or location, but employees in a different division may love working there. Also, I feel like people tend to write reviews only if they are very unhappy, or their company asks them to. So, they do tend to skew very high or low. I think once you interview, you can get a sense of what the atmosphere and corporate culture are like.
