Hi Elizabeth. Before I went back to school, became an educator, and eventually started my own consultng business, I often worked the night shift as a Home Healthcare Aide. I loved my job, but missed evenings with my sons, so doing my work worry-free meant making time management and communication my top priorities. Plan and cook meals ahead of time, arrange reliable child-care, and try to create a situation that allows you to communicate with your kids at key times like before or after meals, homework, and bedtime; just 3-5 minutes of conversation with mom will make them feel special while allowing you to make sure that all is well. At the start of each new contract, I always let my agency, and my clients, know that checking in with my children was important to my work/life balance. Finally, "don't sweat the small stuff". There are tons of things that you may not get to, and that's okay. You don't have to be a super woman to be a great employee AND a great mom!
