Seeking some advice. My team is split into two groups who perform the same function but for different clients. Recently a job opened up under the other manager on my team. They are hiring at 2 levels above the current role I have and 1 level above the woman who left the position previously. The head of my team told me they were looking at all levels but the job was recently posted on our company website and LinkedIn at the VP level - with the exact same description as the job I was hired for (1 level below my current level) 2 years ago.
My concern is that everyone else on my small team is a VP. If they hire this new person at that level as well, I will be the only on on the team without this title. Additionally, I feel like the new job being posted at the exact same description cuts me short of the pay raise and title that comes along with the new hire. It wouldn’t make sense for me to apply for this role internally because it would just mean changing managers and accounts. But if the team are structured any differently, I would certainly apply.
Usually I have a good gut feeling about approaching management and am strong in standing up for myself but I’m struggling to find the right way to approach this.
Any advice from the strong businesswomen out there?
