New to FGB

I'm seeing a lot of males in the FGB site displaying their chauvinist attitude towards women. I honestly don't need a male opinion with great ego. I plan in deleting my page if I cannot share with other women. examples include the "being in the kitchen"

I see the occasional male voice in the comments; however they have been generally constructive or positive comments. Sometimes the men are speaking on behalf of a spouse/partner. I do not mind useful negative comments. They offer an opposing point of view that is important to hear. I guess I've been lucky that the hostile/abusive comments have been scrubbed by the time I get around to reading some of the more "interesting" articles.

For what it's worth, I recall a similar issue on an article about Barbie that invited a LOT of vitriol. I was pretty horrified, and ended up submitting a "tip" or "complaint" or something to the FGB team about some trends I noticed (pretty sure there were some bots in the mix). The FGB Community Manager did a GREAT job on that article of deleting comments that were outside the community guidelines. It may take a while sometimes, as the FGB team is pretty small best I can tell, but they work hard to regulate as best they can.

I sincerely hope you stick with us, the few (admittedly totally horrible) comments like that definitely don't outweigh the great community of women interacting and lifting each other up.

Hi! I remember seeing that article, too, and being a bit discouraged by the comments from men. But that is not at all representative of the majority of FGB users. If you check in regularly or get their email notifications, you will find that most users are awesome women using this platform just as it was intended for — to raise other women up, ask opinions & generally share knowledge & experience about what it’s like to be a professional female in the workplace. Hope you choose to stay bc I really think this platform has way more to offer than some of the comments on that article.

I totally agree, KatieM45....I think its hard for any internet platform to really be for only one kind of person and to police all comments. I generally find you can flag stuff you find inappropriate and it will be dealt with very quickly. Much more quickly than the same kind of stuff on Facebook and YouTube...
