How much coffee is too much coffee?

I'm only half-joking. Should I worry that I drink 4 cups of coffee every morning? And then I want more right around 2pm. Yes, probably a caffeine addiction but am I alone?

No such thing! Just kidding... I know there's an approved amount of caffeine before it becomes dangerous, but from what I recall it's exceedingly high. Do you drink it because you need the caffeine or because you like the coffee? If the later, maybe consider trying decaf IF drinking coffee gives you some kind of problem (tension, heart palpitations, inattention, trouble sleeping, etc.). If you go in it for the caffeine but experience some kind of side effect, maybe consider tea. A lot of teas - black and green especially - have MORE caffeine, but it's a different "type" that doesn't have so many ill effects and the naturally occurring L-theanine works to keep your systems calm, but not make you drowsy.

You’re not alone. When I was working, I drank coffee all day long. It had no ill effects as far as I can tell, but people are different.

Probably not what you want to hear, but it sounds like you've crossed over into (slightly) unhealthy. The good news is you're definitely not alone and there are TONS of awesome resources online to help you cut back (https://www.cnn.com/2017/10/20/health/caffeine-fix-food-drayer/index.html). I find drinking water helps! I still get headaches when I haven't had enough caffeine, but I try to make a conscious effort to limit my intake.

Maybe I'm justifying my coffee intake . . . http://heartinsight.heart.org/Spring-2019/Is-coffee-good-for-you-or-not/
