Job Search Since the Lockdown

I am a graphic artist with technical writing skills, I have been unemployed since before the lockdown. I have had multiple recruiters call me, a couple of interviews, and even a start date which was put on hold. Since the lockdown, the calls stopped and listings on job boards have dwindled. What are some new ways to #jobsearch, any tips during these trying times?

Maybe reach out to people on LinkedIn who have the job that you want. Ask them for a 15 min call tell you their journey of how they got to where they are. It's flattering, quick and you make great connections :)

I have been encouraging others to use this time wisely- upskill, network, be sure your resume is updated and optimized, and also be sure your LinkedIn profile is optimized and that you are active on the site. What you do now will matter when the jobs return, i.e., it can reap you rewards! Sending you my best!

Ditto! I started looking for a new position in February and landed a job two weeks ago in product management. The key to my success was bolstering my LinkedIn profile and tailoring my resume's to include keywords from job postings. For LinkedIn, you need to write content, share / comment on other companies content, and comment on posts - the goal is to get triple digit profile views, then you're more likely to show up in recruiter searches. Being a designer, I would expect that you have a profile image, background image and samples of your work appended to your profile. Also, make sure to reach out to the people in your existing network. Asking to connect with people at companies that you're interested in is key too - try and develop a virtual relationship with them by asking about their experience, etc. As a marketer, I did use freelance sites like Crowdspring and Fiver for some graphics work, so it wouldn't hurt to sign up there as well. Good luck!

I agree with @avidwriter that networking is key in these trying times. I have many unemployed friends at the moment who are having success by posting in Facebook groups and reaching out to their LinkedIn networks. It seems that many people are offering support and willing to help right now if you put it out there!

I'm a TW w/skills in business analysis. Networking will help. And are you freelancing on Upwork?

I think networking in this time is really important, even though it has to be done with care. Check in on your contacts and see how everyone's doing.
