I want a Career Change! But in what?

Im a CNA at a hospital, I work 3 days a week 12 hr shifts, over nights, make my own schedule, I get 4 weeks vacation a year, great benefits.. Sounds Great right? but! Im extreamly unhappy working at this Job I get physically and emotionally abused by patients ( not all ) the Nurses are not the best and it's like pulling teeth to get them to help me with their patients. (Some Nurses are amazing!) but I would have to say more then half of the staff on the floor I work on are awful! I want to get excited about going to work. Im currently working on making my small part-time business full time. Im into Music, baking, decorating cookies, and business stuff, creating excites me like you wouldn't believe :) Im a single Mom so jumping the way I want isn't a option. What kind of job or career can I get into that would get me excited to get up and go to work? I want to be inspired daily and challenge myself but Im so stuck and annoyed that Im not able to think straight. any suggestions on direction ?

I left my job as a high school English teacher recently. I was like you, burnt out and extremely unhappy. I’m also a creative type person. I’m looking to make a career change into a more career related field. I’ve taken a few career/personality tests and PR, HR, Art Director, Writer, Marketing, Actor, UX/UI, Musician are jobs that keep showing up over and over again. But these types of careers can be intimidating. Especially for someone like me (or you) who is used to a straightforward career path (educator, CNA). Making a career change into a creative type field, well, takes creativity. It sounds like you're well on your way to making your side hustle work! What I’m finding is that your mindset is the most important factor when it comes to making a change. I’m listening to an audiobook about confidence that has helped me a lot. Every day, I’m feeling more empowered that I can make a creative career change work. But, I also know that it’s going to take time. Reaching out and talking to the ladies on Fairygodboss has really helped keep my moral high while I continue my journey. Best wishes!

I think a vacation might be a good start! I think far too often friends of mine switch things they love when really they just need a break.

I took off 3 weeks in December went back to work and got right back to being depressed and annoyed. took off another week this month and Im looking forward to my surgery Im having next week because Ill be getting another week off. although I for sure needed a Vacation it wasn't that I needed that to get me to change my feelings about work. its just straight up not my cup of tea and Im looking for a way out. Im a creative person, I love turning nothing into something. this Job is making me stressed, depressed and trust me I do try to stay positive, Im thankful to have a job. I say that because people will say to me that I shouldn't complain, that I should be thankful to even have a job and I am but doesn't mean I should stay at an unhappy job?

Just an idea - but have you considered clinical research? I'm not talking about the low-paying on site jobs, but maybe you'll consider the Pharma, biotech or research organizations? Depending on where you live, you may have a location near you! Head over to Linked In - there are so many places. There are clinical studies that help sick patients and your skills will help you get a good role with the same great benefits!

Gosh, how frustrating! Do you live somewhere where you could find a career counselor to help you? I think someone like that could help with career tests you can take and then ideas for new directions to head in based on what the tests show. At least I think that's a service that is out there. (Can someone in that area chime in?) That coupled with an employment agency to help you realize jobs once you've identified what you want to do might be a good strategy. In the meantime, are there other nursing jobs that might be less negative/more rewarding? Hang in there and best of luck to you!

honestly I have done that in the past, the thing thats challenging with finding help at any organization that "helps" people find a job or career path is the people helping either don't help or they don't care much about their own jobs. Ive never meet anyone that really made me feel like they really wanted to help or hear me out. I haven't went back to any place like this in years but I guess I could try again. The test thing I took when I was in college and it said I was a creative person, I already know that; and the councilor didn't help me much. Ive come to realize that getting ahead in life will only happen with hard work, dedication and surrounding yourself with like minded people. thats why Im here, hoping to find others with the same passion and maybe give me some ideas on how I can work out this bump Im facing. thank you for the comment, I will look into it and hope to find someone :)
