Aging and changes in your body

As I approach 40 I'm noticing some changes in my body such as - I can't skip meals anymore (if I get too busy) as my brain starts to shut-down, one alcoholic drink wipes me out the next day, I get very fatigued the week of my period....these are all things that did not happen a few years ago. My questions is, what kind of changes are you noticing as you get older that weren't present before?

Some of this can be changes with age, but sometimes our bodies aren't functioning at 100% or even 50% for that matter! I highly recommend looking into a functional practitioner or a doctor of oriental medicine in your area - both of these practitioners look at your health holistically and may be able to give you a better idea of what is happening. I understand that hormonal changes are a part of life...but feeling terrible shouldn't be a part of getting older!

Changes in my sleep - I can't sleep in anymore. I wake up during the night at least once, if not twice. Sleep is the biggest change I've noticed but also find that I need to eat more regularly and better now in order to keep brain fog at bay.

I'm glad you thought of this one to share. I had sleep issues for many years, which worsened with age, until it came to a head and I was put on Ambien. For years after, my doctors all continued to encourage the use of the drug without question, until I had my final 'incident' while using it (broken finger), and weaned myself off. It was only then that the doctors pat me on the back and admitted the drug causes Alzheimer's disease (long term studies came out), which runs in my family already. My anger over the lack of proactive discussion after 15 years on it was enough to push me to functional medicine where I found that one of the biggest root causes of sleep-related issues is simply dehydration. Try drinking more clean water. But even this is tricky because another reason we are dehydrated all of a sudden is because our bodies aren't absorbing the water properly. Many of us are already toting water bottles and thoughtfully taking in more than enough but as we age or simply take on more stress, we lose critical minerals that help us hold what water we need. This is also a big reason so many more men have sleep apnea (women drink more water), but they aren't treated for dehydration or even asked about this before embarking on a CPAP or other costly mission. See a good functional medicine practitioner to help vet what nutrients your body needs to make the transition into your 40s because weight gain, sluggishness, and being tired is not simply a card we're dealt and have to accept as we age. Getting quality supplements that will fix this isn't what most people will want to hear or do because it's not as fast as being drugged for the symptoms alone, but give it a try because being truly healthy from the core is better in the long run. It'll fix all the issues listed above and below!

Wow! Thank you for this information - I have been dehydrated since turning 50 + and it is very easy for me to become so dehydrated. This is great info to share!

Ambien is very addictive! Don't let them tell you otherwise.

Thanks for sharing. Brain fog! I always heard about but never experienced until the past year or so. :/
