Work-from-home snacks: help or hindrance?

Now that so many of us have the "work from home" option, we can arrange our schedules around work and...how many trips we make to the kitchen/fridge. Any tips/tricks for enjoying (or curbing) the snacks while we're at home? Thx!

I find working in a dedicated work space (away from the kitchen) is a tremendous help! Then, I can better focus on whether or not I'm hungry for a snack vs. feeding my feelings.

Love this, but I can see the kitchen from my dining room table. I’ll switch chairs so my back is to it. ?

1. Make sure you dont have any junk food around the house. That way when you DO go looking for something, junk food is not in your grasp. 2. Eat big enough meals to keep you full throughout the day, so lots of protein and complex carbs (like sweet potato or squash) 3. Sometimes I find that I just need something to chew on honestly. (I don't know that this is the healthiest habit) I make sure to have a pack of gum nearby. I prefer aspartame free which you can find at health conscious grocery stores like Trader Joe's, Fresh Thyme, or Whole Foods.

I've resorted to only buying (mostly) healthy snacks to keep around the house. If I'm really craving something not so healthy I have to actually leave me apartment to get it and that's been a good enough deterrent to keep me from eating too many sweets. Also agree with the single serve bags, although if you want to reduce the plastic you can still buy in bulk and separate out the portion you want to eat the day before or in the morning. You still have to have some restraint not to dip back into the bag though...lol

When I worked from home it helped to not have so many snacks at home. If I bought snacks it was usually for entertaining purposes, or I would make sure what I bought was veggie or fruit based. If this isn't feasible because other household members (kids?) need to have snacks around, try portioning out your snacks ahead of time. When I couldn't help myself and had too many unhealthy snacks than I wanted to I would make sure to have a 20-30 min walk in the middle of my day before eating lunch to help burn off some cals and not feel like a couch potato! lol

I've learned that I cannot buy unhealthy foods to keep at home due to working remote, it is way too easy for me to go to the kitchen and stress snack all day. I do buy Simply Pop single serving bags as a treat to ensure that I don't go overboard with eating the whole bag and limit myself to one bag a day. #thestruggleisreal

Me too! If I have healthy snacks at home I'll eat healthy snacks, but if I buy delicious junk food then that's all I eat. :)

I try to get snacks set up in the morning and set my lunch ahead of time. I have found that I am more likely to snack healthier than when I worked in an office setting. When I was in an office I was forced to grab a vending machine snack or make due with what I had at my desk- normally not the healthiest options. At home I still snack but I can go grab some veggies instead of chips or candy, not all the time but more than I had previously. Since I keep Veggies and fruit on hand for dinner and my child’s lunches I will grab that when I am feeling hungry.

Keep fresh fruit or cut up veggies around! I honestly love snacking on roasted veggies!
