2019 Goals

I'm starting to think about my personal and professional goals for 2019. Personally, I'd like to get more involved in my community by joining a community board or neighborhood association. Professionally, I really want to position myself to eventually land an international assignment. I have no idea where to start with either of these. Any advice?

Meet people. In the field you are interested in. Who have jobs where you want to work. Find someone working internationally that may be able to guide you on how to place an international assignment or work on your behalf to open doors for you. You may even want to look into working as a consultant or on events where there is a lot of traveling and you can meet people from all over. This will help you grow your network and find the opportunities you are interested in.

Plotting and charting your strengths, honest weaknesses, main interest and what you bring to the table is a great start. I was in your shoes during the summer and was looking for resume volunteer opportunities. Also addressing part time work (money is not the issue resume gap is) I spent a good four months w an honest assessment of my talents and passions. How this would lead to career connections. I went w part time work in a clothing industry because i am working on a gemologist degree. I stay fresh and new in sales, have a local reference and work history and will meet most of the same type of clientele. Being really honest w whomeever you connect w for volunteer is a must! Being open to feedback from trusted friends is equally important

Question! How did you go about plotting and charting your strengths? I feel like I wouldn't know where to begin with that.

So i honestly analyzied what i could get done, how my attitude was during the proccess, and how the outcome happened, then linked them to words or phrases that described my strengths Then charted out strengths that i knew i naturally have and others i have had to learn

My 2019 goal is to find my biological parents. I was adopted and I'm ready to meet them... 31 years later.

Hi there! It’s great that you’re already planning ahead and strategizing what you want to focus on in 2019! Make sure you give yourself a pat on the back for that. For community involvement, think about what areas you’re passionate about and go from there! There are sites that advertise volunteering opportunities, or you can identify a couple organizations based on your interest and just reach out to them and offer your help. Think about also your skill sets and experience that naturally would lend use to an organizations needs, and add to the formula a skill or experience you’d like to gain to conplement your full time work. For your professional goal, might need more context but I would recommend start by thinking about which country has company operations that also has needs best fit your area of work and interest. Identify opportunities and people you can speak to who can help you create opportunities if they don’t exist already, and then go from there. Happy to help strategize and speak more!
