Shaving my head as a woman

I’ve had medium length to long hair for most of my life. For a while now, I’ve always wanted to shave my head. And lately, my partner has been talking about shaving his head now that he can’t get a haircut. So in the back of my mind I’m thinking, should we both shave our heads together? Because what a better time to at least try it out while we’re both basically self-quarantining! I believe I can feel sexy and feminine with my head shaved and I hate thinking that it might make me feel insecure. I don’t know what my partner, family or colleagues will think but if now isn’t the time, what time is? Would love to hear your thoughts and advice on things to think about and/or how to tell my partner. Thanks, FGB fam.

The question I often ask my self before my BIG CHOP… I’ve done it a total of 6 times in my life is… Does my hair define me, will I regret it, and do I really care about other’s opinion…? I often go months with a head full of hair and then will chop it off with no thought in a moment notice but I know people who see their hair as a part of them it’s their crown. My suggestion is if your going to do it now and you think your going to freak out about it just go ahead and do it so by the time we return to work you’ve started the growth process which means you will at least have a curly short hairstyle.

Popping in here with a professional opinion. Whenever my clients want a drastic change out of nowhere or because of a divorce or some other emotional life change, I usually suggest a middle ground. However, if someone has been mulling the change for months or even years I will give them an extra push! So ask yourself if you really, truly want this change or is it an emotional response to the global pandemic? It seems like you’ve always wanted it so you’re probably safe to proceed. Also, hair always grows back!

GO FOR IT!!! It's only hair - it will grow back, and you can always get wigs from Amazon (for not so much money) if you want hair. And that can be LOADS of fun because you can have short hair one day, long red hair the next and a cute blonde bob with pink highlights the day after that! (Yes - I wear wigs...I have hair - but I like to change it up for fun.)

Ever see the first Star Trek movie? I think Persis Khambatta was even more beautiful without her hair, but she did wear a lot of eye makeup so your attention was immediately taken there. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and wear a wig for awhile :)

I lost my very long hair to chemo, but really enjoyed the shaved head look once it started to grow back. I was actually surprised at how good it looked. I have long hair again now but occasionally miss my shaved head. I will warn you the growing out process is long (3+ years for a bob) and can be very awkward, so if you don't like it, you're pretty much stuck.

3+ years for growing back is actually something I’ve never thought about. Hope you’ve fully recovered from chemo?? Thanks for the tip!

My cousin did this a few years ago and she said it was the best thing she ever did. I havent shaved my head but I have been known to get a pixie cut here and there and tell people so the mermaid cut her hair!

There is no going back but if you want to do it then do it. I wore hair extensions for a long time and people would see me with long and short hair. The looks can be annoying but I felt good about it. I always say do what makes you happy!!!
