Do you miss office background noise?

I've worked at home, alone, for quite a while. But if you're new to the home office game, and miss the sounds of the office, check this out: https://imisstheoffice.eu

As someone who is an introvert and has Misphonia, not having to be in an office where I have to hear the sounds that drive me crazy is a blessing. I never understood why the sounds of chewing or humming made me so angry (internally) until my partner shared an article on this with me. :) https://www.sciencealert.com/can-t-stand-the-sound-of-people-chewing-blame-your-brain-science-misophonia

Miss noise?? No, way. I've WFH for many years and am an introvert. I took a new job March 16 which doesn't support WFH but fortunately, they had all of us work remotely during this pandemic. I'm dreading going back into the office. One person in my team is a huge extrovert and very loud. You can hear her talk across the entire floor. If a thought bounces into her head she must vocalize it. It's so bad!! At home, I work in total silence, no music or TV. I've tried several noise canceling headsets and they don't work for me. I want silence! Maybe a pair of those headsets construction people use when operating a jack hammer.

When I need the white noise, I turn on the TV. I can mute it whenever I want LOL. And it's in my peripheral vision so I have motion around me.

I'm self-employed and work from home. However, due to the pandemic I currently have no income coming in, so I'll unfortunately have to apply for the pandemic unemployment program in my state. I'd rather be working, however, I fully understand why our government did what they did and even though it's a major hardship I support what they are doing as I'm in the highly vulnerable population. I'm thankful that they have figured out how to get the majority of us covered, that ordinarily wouldn't qualify for unemployment. I've been working on doing a lot of continuing education, since my client's businesses are currently closed that means I'm closed until they can reopen.

What state are you in! A very enlightened one, I should say! Good luck and good for you with your continuing education!

I'm in Washington State. Anyone that is self-employed qualifies for the federal pandemic unemployment program, if they need it. It just became available in our state, however, they are asking us to wait a couple of days if we can to begin the application process since the website is currently crashing due to up to 500,000+ people per hour still trying to claim for initial benefits, the majority of which they suspect are self-employed/gig workers. I figure if I'm not able to bring in income at least while I'm closed until my clients can reopen their businesses, I can be proactive and work on continuing education and learning new things related to general business and accounting. If I need a break I can always go outside on a nice day and do yard work, as I'm on nearly 1/4 of an acre that needs work done to my flowerbeds. If I can keep busy enough then it won't be that bad and hopefully won't start having bad cabin fever.

I envy your 1/4 acre flower beds! And your enlightened state! I'm in NC. Here they are storming the capitol to re-open businesses.

Love the serenity and working out of the office. I’ve been so conditioned to ‘working’ so I don’t have any issue with being productive. I need to take more breaks though and not be so rigid as when I’m at the place of employment. Good topic.

This is so fun! I find I work best with white noise, so this is really helpful. I've been using a laundry dryer/washer sound on loop for the past week :)

That's a new one! Would not work for me, though. Laundry dryer sound puts me right to sleep!

It is in a "baby sleep sounds" playlist, haha. But it's so calming for me!
