In the midst of this crisis, if you had already been planning to ask for a raise and/or promotion at work — are you still intending to?
Fears about job insecurity are especially pronounced right now, for those of us who are fortunate to still be working. Many companies make it clear that their compensation practices rest heavily on the organization's financial health, and given the precarious state that so many businesses are in, I'm wondering how people are approaching asking for raises or promotions in this moment. Will asking make you come off as totally out of touch? Or are you doing yourself a bigger disservice by not asking? Additionally, I have to wonder whether men are even asking themselves this kind of question — of if more of them will continue asking for raises as planned compared to women.
