Parents, do you share photos of your kids online?

I'm in Instagram and Facebook and while both of my accounts are private, I struggle with posting photos of my kinds online. I definitely love seeing other kid's photos when their parent's post but I struggle with the morality of posting my own. When do you post pictures of your kids? Never, on special occasions or all of the time?

I post when it's part of an organic situation though very rarely is it just an individual portrait and/or tribute. There is an app I love called Notabli that allows you to load pictures, videos and quotables to a private space. I find myself going that route more than anything.

This came up as a topic with my wife and I earlier this year, in regards to our kid's privacy and respect of him as a person when he joins social media in a few years. For us to share sometimes intimate or personal details without someone's consent isn't fair, so we have made an effort to respect his privacy and his future teenage and adult self and heavily reduce our sharing about him on social media.

We post our baby’s pictures over Facebook but that’s it. Unfortunately most of our friends and family are spread out across the country and we rarely see them. Most of them haven’t even met our little guy yet! It’s easier for us to share his photos and special moments this way and ensure everyone is included. I think as he gets older we will wind up posting less since the milestones will be fewer. He’s 6 months old now and it seems almost every week there is something new or different.

Whenever I see kids photos in my friends instagram account I don't understand it! Do kids know what it for? Did anyone ask them? do those moms have anything else to do with their kids except posting their pictures to get some likes? Remember -it's all about privacy and we have to respect it! It's not a cat or a hamster, it's a person!

If I'd have kids I'd never do that! If it's a whole family picture then fine, but kids only-no! I'm pretty sure you'd not like if any of your friends or family members would post your pictures without letting you know (with kids it's a different situation, they are not adult yet and do not fully understand the purpose of it and not responsible for making any decision. I'd suggest to wait at least when they would become teenagers.

I don't post photos, but I do post links if an organization they're in is in the paper/on the school blog.

Most of our family's kid pictures are posted on our Private family group pages. Some of the kid's pictures are also posted on other private pages -- groups of friends, etc. It's not a moral question to us, though, it's privacy. And, of course, in this day and age -- security of the family.
