What's something that you're surprised surprises people about you?

I'm not sure why, but a lot of people - especially those I work with - always seem very surprised that I cook. Cooking is one of my pastimes (and, I'd argue just a generally important skill), so I'm always a little confused/offended when people ask after my lunch and then act incredulous when I tell them "it's just leftovers from the other night." On occasions when I bring in something I'm particularly proud of, it's less surprising (vegan gyros with homemade seitan and fresh-made pitas? Yeah, okay, be impressed with that, please!) but the amount of "wow" I get when I'm munching on some lentil chili is just... odd? I find it EXTRA weird when I offer something or bring it in to share and people are stand offish. You wanna try some of this sourdough? Sure thing! I made an extra loaf. Wait, what do you mean you're not so sure if it's not from a bakery... I swear I didn't poison it. I can't be the only one who has these moments of "what the heck?" so I'd love to hear the oddities that other ladies on here are faced with.

This is such a great post and you're right: cooking is an essential skill to have. People are often surprised that I don't know how to ride a bike. From loose teeth to training wheels, it's such a key component of childhood, but I grew up in NYC and it just wasn't necessary for me. I've always walked places or taken the bus or train. Plus, I had a scooter anyway haha

I was microwaving my leftovers and someone at the other micro asked what was "on the menu". I replied "chicken divan and duchess potatoes". My co-worker was amazed that I made it. Now I will admit, I'll make something like that on a weekend rather than a weeknight, but it's not really that hard. :-p

They probably just wish they were as dedicated to cooking healthy meals as you are! I'm personally always surprised when people are surprised about how young I am.

Haha - that's great. It's like some people forget that in order to reach a certain age you have to start younger. I hope that they're at least kind about it, and they don't let it impact your work!
