Recruiter's Response

Why does it take SO LONG to get a reply? Honestly, I'm looking for new perspective on this topic so please feel free to share. I have job-hunted for almost 2 years and, here in FL, it takes way too long to get a reply. If you post for a position, I assume you are prepared to move forward with it. I'm not foolish, I know you have the find the right candidates, phone interview, in-person interview, etc., and these things can take weeks. I'm talking about after all of that. I still get rejection letters from places I applied to...months ago. And even if it's just a text or an email - just let candidates KNOW so they can move on. Does this really takes weeks, even months? Please relay what you think of this delay (yes, I just made that up).

I would be interested in knowing what your background is, what type of opportunities you're applying for and most importantly, what does your resume look like? If you're applying and not getting calls and/or interviews, your resume isn't doing its job.

Hi Ruth - sorry for the delayed reply, but I'm just getting back in to FG. In answer to your question, mostly admin, with managerial, communications, event coordination Change Management, and education. I worked in healthcare for several years here in FL. I got down to applying for admin again when I could not get replies for anything else. Then, a recruiter got me contract work with KPMG, but COVID-19 cut that short. I am always interested in feedback and would be happy to send you my resume if you have an email you want to share. I'm having to look again soon so any suggestion would help. Thanks and take care!

Do you have any idea of the sheer number of responses that come in for every job posted? And then, if the job is with a corporation, the levels of approvals that must be obtained to move one step forward? We know that you are anxious. We are not doing this to punish you.

Thank you, Schoenlegal. Again, I'm truly looking to get more perspective on this. It can be really discouraging in the job-seeking process. I can think of half a dozen recruiters who told me they would "get back to me" who I never heard from again.

I can only speak for myself and say that isn't the way that my firm works. I am sorry that others have done this to you. My only comment is that if you haven't heard back from someone after two weeks and you then email them and get no response, send ONE follow-up email and then move on. I am truly sorry.
