Mexican Engineer, becoming american...

I'm a Mexican Women in the aerospace industry, i studied in Mexico and I've been working in mexico since my graduation, my boyfriend just proposed (and he's American) (yaay! -ISH), but I've been trying to postpone the wedding. Why? Cause i'm really Good at my job (To be honest), i work in a German company and i've been traveling the world in this past 2 years, unfortunately my Career is not valid in the United States and i'm terrified about leaving my job here in mexico. it's So sad for me to say bye to that part of me, because i'm moving to the united states.

I would look really hard at why your career can't transfer. I live in the Seattle area with Boeing and all of the other aerospace companies. Have you done your due diligence to make sure that your skills aren't valid? I don't see why you would succeed at a German company in Mexico, but not here. Also, you are right to be concerned about the challenges ahead. I interviewed a woman on my podcast who moved here from Mexico and felt she lost her identity in the process. Today, she is very successful, but it's good to know in advance what the struggles may be. One of her biggest issues was the language, but my guess is that won't be an issue for you as you are a global traveler already. Here's her interview in case you're interested. https://readypausego.com/i-lost-my-identity/

I’m glad you have good support. I am retired now, but I wish I had not put so much of my identity into my job when I was working. You sound like a strong and articulate woman to me. I wish you every success.

I think this pandemic has really made an impact in me, my priorities and desires are completely different now. I’m only 26 now, it’s a good time to stop poring my identity into my job, thanks a lot for you words BansheeBailey

Would your boyfriend consider staying in Mexico for you at least for the time being? My husband moved for me.

Questions/comments: 1) Can your company help you relocate to the U.S.? If you have been traveling the world for them, that suggests that you have some unique skills, which would help them bring you into the U.S.— at least if they have a U.S. office. Or can you work remotely in your current job, continuing to travel? If this is a matter of credentials, could your company help you to obtain the U.S. credentials you need? As an international firm, I would expect that they already have faced similar situations. 2)If option 1 is not viable, can your company hire you as a consultant? 3)I agree that you and your fiancé might want to consider his moving to Mexico.

I tried that option, but it was very difficult for the company since they had to prove that no other American can do the job I’m currently doing, but they told me that as soon as I get my permit I can try again and they’ll be happy to have me

I am a Canadian tech professional that immigrated to the US (first under a TN Visa and then I married an American, so I'm here on a Green Card). Moving to another country is full of excitement and a lot of trepidation (even when that country is a neighbor of your country) - I understand your worries. Why isn't your career recognized in the U.S.? Or is it that your training is not recognized? You might want to look around for a similar position in a different industry or a different position in a similar industry just to see what's available for you if you can't work in your position in your industry here in the U.S. You may find a great opportunity that will take your career to the next level (and something that excites you) by looking at looking adjacent to your career in aerospace and/or adjacent to the aerospace industry. Please keep us in the loop on your journey, we are here to support and help you.

Thank you very much for your kind words, I’m doing more reaserch and also asking for help at the university I studied, another option is doing a masters in Mexico with double degree.

Why can't your boyfriend join you? If you love your job and have great opportunities, nothing says you have to follow him, he can follow you!

that is absolutely truth, but to be honest the quality life is better in the states, also he’s a engineer too, and the opportunities that American engineers have over Mexican engineers are enormous.
