I'm currently on a project that I'm really not enjoying...

... and it was just extended from 6 months to 18 months. How can I present switching to my boss at the firm? I'm pretty new to the company, but part of my interest in the firm was the idea that I'd be switching projects at least semi-regularly.

It might not be easy for you to switch (sorry!), but one angle to consider is that you will receive more comprehensive training and be more valuable to the firm if you are exposed to varied projects early on. If you were promised regular rotations when you were recruited, this is the time to bring up that promise.
