why is finding a remote job so difficult?

I'm a customer success/account manager with a ton of experience ((bulk in CPG). I've been searching for a remote position for 10 months with a constant reply of "you have a great background but the job is located (insert city)". What adds to the frustration is most times, after speaking to HR regarding location, the job continues to be listed. Trust me, I've done LinkedIn, professional resume/coaching, job fairs, on line classes...everything. Do I continue my quest or throw in the towel.? Thanks.

A lot of companies are pulling back on their remote work opportunities in favor of co-location and face-to-face interaction. I've found it to be easier to commit to working in an office, establishing credibility, and then asking for the remote opportunity. That's what makes working 100% remote right out-of-the-gate so difficult, in my opinion.

What type of remote job are you working for? Whats your background and what department would your new role sit in?

I have over 15 year experience with multi-industry (primarily CPG) companies as an account manager/customer success. I'm looking to stay in that area for any industry. I love to connect with clients and build relationships with them. Once I learn something, I can train anyone. At least once a week, I hear "your background is great but the job is located "xx". I have worked remote for eight years - as you can imagine, it's frustrating. Anything you can suggest would be terrific. Thank you.

Have you heard of HashiCorp? They have a remote-first culture!.. They have multiple openings for account managers. https://fairygodboss.com/company/jobs/hashicorp

Try remote specific job boards. Flexjobs has a fee for the platform, but it screens out the scams, and can be well worth it.

IME, many jobs offer the ability to work from home but are not home based. Those which are either are full support roles where you are online/on the phone or some sort of road warrior sales/support role.
